Encouraging ICT Application

The Second National Information and Communication (ICT) Seminar, themed ‘ICT Application in Enterprises,’ will be held at the Le Quy Don Senior Secondary School, Da Nang City, on August 13 and 14, 2004.

This is the ever largest seminar on ICT application for enterprises held by the National Steering Board on ICT, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications and the People’s Committee of Da Nang city in cooperation with other ministries and agencies.

Dr. Mai Liem Truc, the deputy minister of Post and Telecoms, said that the main target of the seminar was to create a forum for information exchange on the current situation, opportunities and demand for ICT application in Vietnamese enterprises, among enterprises and between enterprises and State management agencies. The seminar also aims at improving the effectiveness of ICT application, helping enterprises increase their competitiveness and opportunities at international integration, and stimulating the ICT development environment and market in Vietnam.

The seminar will see the participation of representatives from State management agencies, ICT application enterprises and ICT solution providers. About 550 participants, including representatives from 18 ministries and 12 cities and provinces (150 participants are expected to come from State management agencies), will attend the seminar. Representatives from State management agencies will be provided with information about ICT application in enterprises under their management. They will also introduce mechanisms and policies to boost ICT application. The seminar will be also an opportunity for enterprises to contribute their ideas and comments to State management agencies, so that these bodies can issue suitable policies.

About 200 enterprises using ICT are expected to attend the seminar with about 320 representatives. Meanwhile, about 40 ICT solutions and products providers are expected to take part and introduce their services at the event. Through the seminar, these enterprises will evaluate the potential and requirements of the local ICT market to develop their future strategies.

Reports on policies and mechanisms, situation and results, as well as development orientations, requirements and proposals from ICT application organisations and enterprises in the textile and garments, oil and petrol, transportation, insurance, tourism and banking industries will be heard at the seminar.

An exhibition will also be held to introduce ICT products, technology and services. Furthermore, the organisers will organise exchange meetings with and visits to exemplary enterprises in Da Nang.
