“Vietnam Gold Star Award Elevates Vietnamese Brands,” said Ms Nguyen Kim Thuy, General Director of Dinh Vang Co., Ltd, in a face to face talk with Vietnam Business Forum. She said the award is the confirmation of the effort of the entire staff of the company and is also a turning point for the company to reach a new high: A big multi-business company actively contributing to social security and promoting national economic development. Thu Huyen reports.
It is still vividly remembered when a beautiful young woman receives an award with the pride of victory. What were your feelings when you received your first award?
At that time, there were not so many awards as now and the Vietnam Gold Star Award is an honourable award, as the Prime Minister assigned the Central Committee for Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association to host the award in praise of Vietnamese companies and brands with outstanding achievements in the process of international integration. This is a prestigious and most-anticipated award by the Vietnamese business community. Dinh Vang Co., Ltd carried off the first award in 2003, together with many other industry leaders. I was very moved because the fruits of our labour, creativity and effort over the past years was being recognised, valued and respected by the community.
I’m sure being moved and proud doesn’t express all that you felt. Did the award mark a turning point for Dinh Vang to climb to a new level?
The award strengthened the confidence of the company’s staff. The fruit the company picked has created a stepping stone for a new phase of development, and fresh motivation to sustain and continue its production and business development oriented by the company’s leadership: Sustainable development by huge investment into manufacturing factories powered by modern equipment and innovative production processes to create highly prestigious and competitive products on domestic and international markets. Hence, the company continues expanding its footwear factories in Quang Ninh, Thai Binh and Hai Duong provinces.
Particularly, it has invested tens of billions of Vietnamese dong to upgrade its vocational training centre to Dinh Vang Vocational School as soon as it satisfied necessary conditions and received permits for manpower export granted by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA). In addition, the company attaches much importance to building up a workforce with strong expertise, good ethics and devotion to work. These are prerequisite factors to ensure the quality and technology of Dinh Vang products and create a driving force for growth in scale and quantity.
After 16 years of construction and development, the company has to date built up a good prestige and brand, become a reliable partner for domestic and international customers, and gradually developed into the powerful Dinh Vang Corporation. In 2010, the firm earned export revenues of US$250 million and created stable jobs for more than 28,000 employees with an average monthly income of VND2.5 million each. The company’s production and business activities help ensure social security and create regular employment for its workers, with 80 percent being rural workers in Quang Ninh, Hai Duong, Thai Binh, Hung Yen, Bac Giang, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces. The company has played a very important role in reducing poverty, and promoting industrialisation and modernisation of agricultural and the rural economy.
With its achievements, the company was granted the Red Star Award in 2000, the Vietnam Gold Star Award in 2003, the Hai Phong Typical Business Award in 2004, and the Typical Garment, Textile, Leather and Footwear Business Award in 2010. Especially, I was personally bestowed the Third Grade Labour Order by the State President, the Certificate of Merits by the Prime Minister in 2004, the Golden Rose Award 2006 by the Vietnam Women Business Association and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and many other awards and titles.
Social responsibility means sharing the company's success with the community. How do you apply this as the foundation for Dinh Vang’s sustainable development?
Our current outcomes are built on the support of our partners and the trust of customers. Hence, we should have responsibility to the community which will in turn support our growth and help us create better products for customers.
The company pays special attention to promoting social activities in the past years. It takes care of the health and livelihood of employees. It has invested tens of billions of Vietnamese dong to build houses for 1,600 migrant workers in Hai Phong City. It regularly takes part in charity activities like supporting Vietnamese heroic mothers, caring for the elderly and disabled children, AO victims, flood victims, etc.
Could you please reveal your company’s current interests and development orientations for the upcoming years?
