In the framework of the World Bank-funded research programme with regard to assisting Vietnam to promote trade and enhance national competitiveness, the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI - HCM) and the World Bank (WB) coordinated with the National Committee for International Economic Cooperation Office to organise the conference on “Evaluating the status of trading and improvement strategic system” on October 11, 2011.
Experts said that has issued many very effective policies and measures to promote export in specific periods. However, outcomes are still well below existing potentials.
Professor Vo Thanh Thu, Member of the Advisory Council for International Trade Policies, VCCI, said: Most of Vietnamese exporters have small and medium operating scales, their interconnectivity remains weak, and they have not built up internationally recognised profiles. Such that, has to create an export development strategy that should focus on human resources, trade promotion activities, forecasting works and update market information. Besides, they also need to change their operating models, from offshore outsourcing for foreign companies, to self-trading to strengthen their internal strengths and protect their legitimate interests on the international arena.
