Coming to Phuong Nam Company and seeing a large tea material zone up to 40 hectares and hundreds of hectares tea cultivated under VietGap Standard, people must think that it is owned by a famed person. However, enjoying hot cups of tea flavoured with cholorantus and sweetened by dew in Lam Dong highlands, Nguyen Minh Khanh, the company’s Deputy Director said that given the passion for tea by his father, Mr Nguyen Duc Nguyen, he has engaged himself to tea production. And he, with passion for scent, flavour and fine charm of tea art, has cherished an aspiration for tea, to contribute firmly to Phuong Nam tea brand in particular and Blao Lam Dong tea in general.
Founded in 1998, Phuong Nam Company is located between Loc Phat Ward and Bao Loc Town, which is the centre of the largest tea material zone in Lam Dong. Phuong Nam is involved in purchasing and processing flavoured tea, CTC black tea, Oolong tea, and coffee.
From its foundation, keeping in mind the motto “Quality is the vital factor of the enterprise’s survival,” the company has continuously expanded production scale and capacity. In 2003, Phuong Nam opened two plants for processing Oolong tea and coffee which were equipped with the latest modern technology to meet the market’s increasing consumption demand. The productivity of finished tea is over 50 tonnes per day. Especially, with the policy to build a material zone of safe tea, in 2008, Phuong Nam conducted good agricultural cultivation and practices. Good agricultural practices are standards and guidelines to ensure a clean and safe production environment, a food supply excluding causes of disease such as biological toxins (bacterium, fungus, virus, parasites) and chemicals (residue, heavy metal content, nitrate) and safe products from plantation in field to use. GAP include standards for land, fertilizer, and water use, pesticide prevention, cropping, packaging, storage, field sanitation and product delivery, to develop sustainable agriculture with the aim of ensuring safety for food, manufacturers, environmental protection and product traceability.
Phuong Nam prides itself on being the first tea enterprise in the province certified for programmes of safe production and food hygiene, at all stages from input to production. Phuong Nam’s products have always got good quality and won high appreciation from customers. Phuong Nam tea brand has not only spread to other provinces and cities, but has also been exported to Singapore and the Middle East. The company has been one of seven tea trading enterprises awarded the certificate to use the Blao tea brand – a reputable industrial brand of Lam Dong province in both national and international markets for 80 years.
Lam Dong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that for the past years, Phuong Nam Company’s business activities have made important contributions to creating jobs, increasing income and improving living standards for tea planters, sustainably developing material zones and building the Lam Dong tea product brand. Given Phuong Nam tea brand’s success and reputation, it is hoped that the company will proceed with its path to affirm its position together with Lam Dong tea industry.
