New Title of Ha Long Bay Celebrated
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on November 12 in Ha Noi held an evening gala to celebrate the recognition of Ha Long Bay as one of the 7 new wonders of the world, drawing the attendance of thousands of people.
The bay in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province, a World Heritage site, gained the title after four years of voting by people around the world.
The other six new wonders include Amazon jungle in Southern America, Iguazu falls of Argentina, Jeju Island of the Republic of Korea, Komodo national park of Indonesia, Puerto Princesa Underground River of the Philippines, and Table Mountain of South Africa.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho Anh Tuan said that the new title of Ha Long Bay will help promote Vietnam’s image around the world, so it is necessary to protect, preserve and bring into play the site.
More effective measures are needed to preserve the bay’s values and develop more attractive tourism products to tap its potential.
