The education sector in Kien Giang province has been strengthened and firmly developed with success over the past years.
Pushing up information technology applications
Recently, the Kien Giang education sector has pushed up information technology applications. Presently all education State management authorities and education facilities have internet connection; particularly, 75 percent of monthly meetings online, improving training, advertising software, organising competitions with e - learning lectures and creation software with over 359 competitors, thus increasing application of e - learning lectures to renovate teaching methods. In management activities, along with using general software regulated by the EMIS and PMIS rules, the education sector has also experimented with applying V.EMIS software, Schoolnet e - timetable software, information technologies, financial management (IMAS, MISA,...), and applied a mail system to exchange official and popular documents.
In efforts to apply information technology and modern teaching equipment in education, teaching methods have been specifically renovated, which increases knowledge and practicing skills of pupils.
Enhancing the quality of comprehensive education
According to Ms Nguyen Thi Minh Giang, Director of Education and Training Department in Kien Giang province, “Building friendly schools and active pupils” has become a great competition movement initiated by the Ministry of Education and Training in the 2008-2009 school year. After three years of implementation with comprehensive solutions, the “Building friendly schools and active pupils” competition movement, education sector of Kien Giang province has reached good results. Regarding the competition movement results, comprehensive education quality has been developed; the number of weak students and drop-outs has been diminished, class upgraded and graduated pupils (at least secondary school graduation) have grown. The renovations of teaching methods, exams and education quality improvement assessment have been seriously considered.
The movement of building green, clean schools has been pretty implemented. Accordingly, most education facilities are well built and clean; schools and classes are spacious with a healthy environment. Particularly, in the 2010-2011 school year there are 38 green - clean and nice schools of reaching high 15 standards, 35 schools of reaching 11 standards; therefore overall amount of green - clean and clear has been increased to 425 schools.
The “Building friendly schools and active pupils” competition movement has also increased pupils’ awareness, self confidence, self protection against harmfulness, temptation as well as unhealthy activities. Specifically, by those activities in school’s clubs, self learning confidence skills, life skills, health awareness of pupils has been developed. Furthermore, schools have also actively organised group activities of folk games; brought songs, dances, traditional and ethnic music, which is suited to pupil ages, characterised by provincial traditions and raising pupils concentration on learning.
Apart from the “Building friendly schools and active pupils” competition movement, the education sector has supported schools in implementing the “When drinking water, remember its source”, and “Gratitude” movements; helping pupils explore the province’s history, historical cultural monuments; build and employ cultural relations in school.
