Pepper Exports in 2011 See 86 Pct Increase in Value
The Vietnam Pepper Association has reported that exports of Vietnam’s pepper in 2011 have increased in value dramatically. Although the volume for export this year reached 120,000 tonnes, an 8 percent increase in volume, there was an 86 percent rise in income compared to last year, worth nearly USD 720 million.
The export price of pepper continually rose in 2011. In the first months of 2011, the price of export pepper rose from VND 80,000 to 100,000 per kilogramme and the price has climbed further to nearly VND 150,000 per kilogramme and this represents the highest price ever.
Regarding export markets, the United States (US), the United Arab Emirates and Germany have been the three traditional major import markets of Vietnamese pepper. It is noteworthy that in 2011 the world’s large pepper producers also had to buy Vietnam’s pepper. India, Indonesia and Malaysia, in particular, bought the Vietnamese commodity.
Vietnam remains the world leader in annual volume of exported pepper.
