Tourism Year 2011 Taps Sea and Island Potential

More than 30 cultural, sports and tourism events have been held in eight provinces and cities in the Southern Central Coast of Vietnam this year, significantly promoting sea and island tourism in the country.
 
These activities, part of the National Tourism Year 2011, have helped create favorable conditions for Phu Yen Province, which hosted the National Tourism Year, in particular and coastal provinces in general to advertise and introduce their cultural and traditional characteristics, said Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh.
 
These provinces have seized opportunities to tap their tourism potentials, promote investment in the tourism industry, attract domestic and international tourists, and establish tourism trade marks, contributing to developing the country’s tourism, he added.
 
In 2011, the number of travelers and foreign visitors rose 18 percent and 22 percent, respectively in comparison with the 2010 figures.
 
Phu Yen Province saw rises of 38 percent in termd of the number of travelers, 46 percent in the number of international visitors and 80 percent in tourism revenues over 2010.
 
The National Tourism Year 2012, with the theme “Heritage Tourism” will be hosted by Thua Thien Hue Province.
