CPI Increases Slightly in Jan
The Consumer Price Index in January has gone up 1% over the previous month and posted a year-on-year increase of 17.27%, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
This is the second smallest CPI increase since 2004, reflecting the situation of tightening expenditure among majority customers in the difficult economic period.
In the first month, ten out of 11 commodity groups witnessed CPI surges between 0.02% and 1.97%. Only post and communications saw a 0.01% drop.
Food and catering service index at 1.01% mainly attributed to the CPI slight increase.
However, prices of garment and footwear witnessed the highest surge at 1.97% following sharp demands in cold weather and year end.
Prices of equipments and household utensils went up 0.96%; culture, entertainment and tourism 0.93%; transport 0.66% and healthcare service 0.25%.
In January, gold prices shrunk 3.72% against the previous month at around VND 4.3 million per ounce. On the other hand, USD prices picked up 0.05%, standing at VND 21,294.
