Foreign Tourists to Vietnam up 24.8 Pct in January
Vietnam greeted an estimated 630,000 foreign tourist arrivals in January 2012, according to the General Statistics Office and the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
The figure is a 6.2 percent increase from December 2011 and a 24.8 percent rise from the same month of 2011. This was considered a record monthly number until now.
Of this, the number of foreign tourists visiting the country by air reached 530,000, up 29 percent year on year, while arrivals by sea posted 5,000 (up 25 percent) and those by road were 95,000 (up 5.6 percent).
Most of Vietnam’s tourism markets saw rises in January 2012, including Cambodia (up 95 percent), China (93.4 percent), England (39.7 percent), France (33.3 percent), the US (26.8 percent) and Japan (26.2 percent).
The high number of foreign tourists to Vietnam in the first month of 2012 is a strong start for the tourism sector to fulfill its target of welcoming 6.5 million foreign visitors in 2012.
