With a long history of over 160 years of construction and development, the coal industry has contributed greatly to national social and economic development. However, environmental problems are always a risk in mining activities. Aware of that, Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited set up a company specialising in environment protection, separately from mining industries, in order to ensure a “green” mining industry for sustainable development. In 2009, Vinacomin - Environment One Member Limited Liability Company started to operate with the major duties of investment, operation and business activities relating to environmental construction. After three years of operation, Vinacomin - Environment One Member Limited Liability Company has shown its effectiveness by taking part in improving environments in mining areas.
In 2010, Vinacomin - Environment One Member Limited Liability Company faced lots of difficulties due to production expansion in many areas, and troubles with operation and construction conditions. Along with that, limited human resources as well as machinery and equipment also impacted the implementation process. However, with its full effort and strong human resource management methods, Vinacomin - Environment One Member Limited Liability Company (Company) successfully achieved its targets. Furthermore, employees’ living standards have also improved, with increased incomes.
Particularly, Mr Do Xuan Tinh, the Director of Vinacomin-Environment One Member Limited Liability Company said: “The Company has completed 22 sewage treatment plants. Especially since 2007, despite immense difficulties in the economy, the Company has strived to complete the construction of 10 sewage treatment plants in mine areas of Quang Ninh province. In accordance with the 2011 plan, the Company basically fulfilled its duties of constructing sewage treatment plants in mine areas of Quang Ninh province.”
Regarding Mr Do Xuan Tinh, in order to construct and complete projects in the scheduled time, the Company continuously monitors the implementation, and timely carries out solutions, especially solutions related to site clearance. Accordingly, some projects have begun operation and shown effective results, for instance: Sewage treatment plant of Ha Rang Coal Factory (Ha Long Coal Company), sewage treatment plant of Mao Khe Coal Company, sewage treatment plant of Nam Mau Coal Company, and sewage treatment plant of Khe Cham Coal Company.
Together with sewage treatment plant construction in mine areas, the Company has also participated in implementing internal transportation lines, building environment improvement projects, landfill rehabilitation, and constructing earth dams. Some of these construction activities are in cooperation with Japanese, German, and Korean partners. To facilitate business operations, the Company always supervises the amount of work as well as the cost of construction to rebalance and adjust them towards practical capacity. Management and control activities have become more and more effective. Furthermore, every employee has guaranteed to obey labour safety and protection regulations; out of the total 14 basic units there were 9 basic units gaining the “Successful Guarantee of Labour Sanitation and Safety” title. The process of construction implementation and handover is on time, so the projects can show results as soon as possible.
The Company will soon start to implement two major projects, including a treatment facility for hazardous waste discharged by Vinacomin subsidiaries and building an unfired - brick production factory aiming to use the waste ash from thermal power plants of the group. Currently, the documents and procedures of two projects are being completed, and work is expected to begin in 2012. The projects of Vinacomin - Environment One Member Limited Liability Company along with other relevant companies all bring us closer to the “clean - modern - safe” target of Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited.
