In 2012, the online trading services of major Vietnamese brands are expected to grow strongly.
In 2011, there was a strong tendency of e-commerce via websites and social network of Vietnam in forms of B2C (business to customers), C2C (customers to customers) and B2B (business to business). According to the current survey of the Ministry of Industry and Trade with 2004 enterprises throughout the country, all of these enterprises applied their own websites on various and different scales and levels, 70 percent of them used internet to trade products, which are normally worth up to 33 percent of their total revenues. As noted by the Alibaba.com, a world leading e-commerce trading service, the Vietnamese members engaging in it reached the number of 180,000 by the end of 2011. As forecast, 2012 will be a year of intensive development in online trading activities by increasing numbers of big brands.
Mr Brian Wong, Vice President of Global Services and Businesses Department of Alibaba.com Group, said: “The e-commerce application in businesses has become a worldwide phenomenon when most enterprises search for partners just by some mouse clicks.” In the interview with an American Practical E-commerce website in the early February 2012, Mr Wong emphasized: “Yearly, you participate in the exhibition in order to look for some new products. However, with Alibaa.com, you can find every day hundreds of new, interesting and unknown products. Among them, you may be surprised of many products originated from Vietnam.”
Not standing apart from this tendency, Vietnamese enterprises, including small and medium enterprises as well as big ones, have strongly engaged themselves in e-commerce services with the purpose of lifting up exports and taking the first steps to bring them to the world market. Along with the stagnancy of domestic and foreign economy, as well as advantages of time and space, online trading services have become channels for enterprises to efficiently promote their products to foreign markets.
Particularly, Tan Hiep Phat Beverage Group – an enterprise which overcomes its competitors, like Coca Cola, Pepsi, and Nestle, to become a leading provider in the 2 billion litre Vietnamese beverage market – is trying to approach customers via international distributors. Ms Vo Thu Nha, in charge of import-export activities of Tan Hiep Phat Beverage Group, shared: “Our own products are more and more attended by international importers. Monthly, we’ve received 150 orders in average from many countries through Alibaba.com. And this active engagement in e-commerce channels is indicated in our strategy to promote our brand and products worldwide.”
Dong A Plastic Group Joint-stock Company is a leading group specialised in products for construction and decoration. After ten years of operation in the domestic market, in 2010, Dong A Plastic Group Joint-stock Company started its first exports to India. Ms Nguyen Thi Hong Le, responsible for international marketing activities of Dong A Plastic Group Joint-stock Company (Dong A Plastic), said: “With the goal of promoting exports through e-commerce, since August 2011, we registered to be a high priority member of Alibaba.com, the e-commerce website with the highest number of visitors. Every month, we normally receive 30 to 40 orders via this channel.”
Mr Dang Quang Vu, Head of Export - Import Division of Hanoi Trade Corporation (Hapro), said: “Years ago, we used to find our customers through exhibitions periodically organised in Germany, the United States, Hong Kong, etc., and introduced by Vietnam Trade Fairs in foreign countries. However, in recent years, pursuing the blooming development of similar trading companies and fierce competition, the number of Hapro customers has been reducing. We are now trying to find new markets, and right after e-commerce services appeared, we realised our solution.”
Many other famous bands like Nghia Nippers Corporation, Tien Dat Stainless Steel Group, Cadi - Sun Group, Hoa Phat Group, Viglacera Corporation, Prime Group, and Huu Nghi High Quality Confectionery have also chosen e-commerce services as a potential development tool. Mr Tran Dinh Toan, Deputy General Director of OSB Investment and Technology Joint-stock Company, the Representative of Alibaba.com in Vietnam, said: “In my opinion, in 2012, while many models of e-commerce services, such as: B2C (business to customers), C2C (customers to customers), and especially Groupon (buy in group) will continue to strongly grow in width aiming to conquer the domestic market, other models, such as: B2B (business to business), especially international B2B, will increase in a concentrated and highly selective way, and e-commerce websites like Alibaba.com will earn worldwide enterprises trust.”
It is said that 2012 will be a promising year of extreme development in e-commerce application in the country, as well as in international trading channels.
