The Mekong River Commission (MRC) recently inaugurated 12 upgraded hydrologic monitoring stations in Can Tho City. This is part of a support project for the Mekong Hydrological Cycle Observing System (HYCOS).

The project, with a total investment of EUR3 million (US$4 million), was financed by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the French Global Environment Fund (FFEM).

The project is shared by the four Mekong River Commission (MRC) member countries: Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. The Institute of Research for Development (IRD), the National Company of Rhone (CNR) and the World Meteorological Organization supported technical coordination for the project.

The project aims to establish a reliable, functional regional hydrological observation system covering the Mekong River and its main tributaries.
