Japan Helps Vietnam Develop Traffic Control System for Expressway
Tanizaki Yasuaki Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Vietnam, on behalf of the Government of Japan, and Dinh La Thang Minister of Transport of Vietnam, on behalf of the Government of Vietnam, just signed the Exchange Note (E/N) in which the Government of Japan will extend to the Government of Vietnam a grant of up to JY527 million, for the purpose of contributing to the implementation of “The project for Development of Traffic Control System for Expressway in Hanoi” by the Government of Vietnam.
Following the signing of E/N, for implementation of the grant, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Transport (MOT) designated by the Government of Vietnam agreed to conclude the Grant Agreement (G/A) for the project.
Under the G/A signed on March 29 in Hanoi, JICA will provide equipment on ITS to Vietnam. Specifically, the main activities of the Project will be located on Ring Road No.3 between the intersection with National Highway No.5 and Phap Van (10 km), and Road Section between Phap Van and Cau Gie (30 km). JICA will provide the ITS equipment such as roadside cameras, variable message system, centre system, communication system, etc in order to provide accurate information on the situation of the road to the users. This will ultimately help Vietnam to have safe, smooth and convenient transportation on the expressway network in Hanoi area.
In 2011, JICA and the Ministry of Transport also signed a US$5.8 million Technical Cooperation project to help training human resource for expressway construction and a US$2.2 million Technical Cooperation project on strengthening operation and management system for expressway.
