Foreign individuals and organizations have donated over US$7 million to help preserve and restore the ancient imperial city of Hue during the 1992-2012 period.

In 1992, Japan’s Fund-in-Trust funded US$100,000 through UNESCO to help Hue restore the Ngo Mon Gate.

The Japanese Government has also funded projects to preserve the King Minh Mang’s tomb and Nha Nhac Hue, the unique sound of Hue’s Royal Court Music. The neighboring Laos also sent 400 cubic meters of iron wook for the preservation work.

The Polish Ateliers for Conservation of Cultural Property financed US$900,000 to help restore the The To Mieu construction.

Since 1993, Japan’s Toyota Foundation has financed over 10 research projects supporting the Hue Relics Preservation Center, worth US$100,000.

The Japan Foundation, Waseda University, the Japan International Cooperation Agency and UNESCO’s Asia-Pacific Cultural Centre have also played a substantial role in these efforts.

Other supportive organizations include the Fulbright Program and the Ford Foundation from the US, the French Group Rhone Polenc and the Korea Foundation.
