Recently, The Office for Business Sustainable Development (SDforB) of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the Center for Environment and Cleaner Production (CECP) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam (MOIT), and Dow Chemical International Limited (DCIL) signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on providing a Cleaner Production and Waste Management (CP&WM) training program in Vietnam.

“We are proud to be part of this CP&WM training program for the development of businesses in Vietnam. At SDforB, we strive to support, educate and direct the business community to promote the economic development of Vietnam whilst ensuring environmental protection” said Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Director General of SDforB.

The program will be coordinated by SDforB who will be in charge of overall planning-implementing-monitoring and evaluation. CECP will be the key program partner organization and will be in charge of training materials and workshops including training specialists. CECP will also act as liaison with MOIT departments in the provinces/cities where the training workshops will be organized. DCIL will be the sponsor of the training program and provide support and guidance throughout. This collaboration will initially be for up to two years although Dow is committed to a long-term future relationship to raise the awareness of Cleaner Production and Waste Management.

“The provision of this training program aimed at small and medium businesses is a step in the right direction. With limited resources, SMEs usually don’t have access to this type and quality of training. By reaching out to them and showing our commitment to the development of the industry together, we can help provide for a better Vietnam.” said Mr. Tran Anh Tan, Director of CECP.

The training program will take place in 25 major cities and provinces across Vietnam where training workshops have been identified as most beneficial. Whilst raising the knowledge of Cleaner Production and Waste Management, the workshops will also provide the opportunity for trainers and the participants to exchange practical knowledge and experience in applying and implementing Cleaner Production and Waste Management in manufacturing industries.

“Vietnam is on a dynamic growth path. The Cleaner Production and Waste Management Training Program leverages from our partners’ and Dow’s long experience and sophistication with clean technology to help create sustainable economic development and progress for Vietnam. Dow's many products are used by Vietnamese manufacturers in many areas from paints and coatings, production of white goods, food and goods packaging to electronic materials. By taking an active participation in this program, we will be helping our customers and potential customers to improve production efficiency, competitiveness, environmental practices and safety culture.” said Mr. Eddy Setiawan, Dow’s South East Asia President and Asia Pacific Regional Director for Performance Materials.

The Cleaner Production and Waste Management Training Program will commence in September, 2012. Information on registration and course schedule may be found at www.vbcsd.vn
