Improving the quality and trademark of Vietnamese rice is the domestic agriculture sector’s orientation.
The country is expanding sample fields and adding value through the cooperation of farmers, scientists, managers and enterprises. The positive sign is that more farmers and enterprises actively respond to this kind of model and want to participate. If sample fields are expanded, rice production profit will be higher, helping to raise living conditions.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the winter-spring crop, the “big sample field model” will be implemented in the northern region. Vietnam Northern Food Corporation is responsible for big sample fields in Thanh Hoa and is among units assigned to buy products from farmers by the MARD.

The winter-spring crop is the first crop that farmers in Yen Dinh District know about “big sample field” model. As planning, the piloted model in Yen Dinh District covers 100 ha. Witnessing benefits of massive production, using sci-tech and being offered with timely technical assistance as well as outlets for products, local farmers are very happy. Vietnam Northern Food Corporation has pledged to buy all products from farmers and also give financial support to buy varieties for those who join the big sample field model. Through which, farmers can be partially feel secure about the application of the model, reducing old cultivation habit and practices.

These sound results are thanks to the closed cooperation among the State (provincial authorities), scientists (provincial agriculture sector), enterprise (Vietnam Northern Food Corporation- VNF1 Distribution Retail) and farmers. The effects for the model implementation cooperation show that local farmers, authorities and agriculture sector expected the model to be multiplied. In terms of companies, VNF1 Distribution Retail has high-quality material growing areas meeting requirements for clean rice production. The purchase is implemented in a closed line from zone planning, taking care o, harvest, processing and preservation until packaging for final products, which all are applies Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and checked for food safety before being distributed to customers. Many regional rice specialties are gathered at VNF1 such as Tran Chau of Long An Province, fragrant Nang Xuan famous nationwide of Soc Trang, Lai Suc or northern rice specialities of such Tam Dien Bien originated from Muong Thanh fields and Hoa Vang sticky rice and Bac Huong.

The “big sample field model” is an important and long-term solution expected to contribute to restructuring of the agriculture sector to slash costs and raise value of agricultural products, ensuring sustainable production and attaching production to consumption market. Vietnam Northern Food Corporation in general and VNF1 Distribution Retail will ensure the product quality and farmers will have outlets, which helps to increase their income. The two-side relationship will be maintained through the contract, making contribution to improving prestige and quality of Vietnamese rice in both local and foreign markets.
