Agricultural Exports Reach US$18.1 Billion
Vietnam’s agro-forestry and fishery exports in the eight months up to August reached US$18.1 billion, a 18.1 percent year-on-year increase, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
During this period, the country earned US$2.66 billion from 1.26 million tonnes of coffee shipments, a year-on-year rise of 31.9 percent in volume and 26.3 percent in value.
The United States and Germany are Vietnam’s two largest coffee markets, respectively accounting for 12.5 percent and 12.4 percent of its export value.
Rice exports during the period are estimated to reach 5.5 million tonnes, with a value of US$2.48 billion, down 8.5 percent compared to the same period last year, while rubber exports hit US$1.78 billion, up 29.1 percent year on year.
The forestry sector posted strong growth with exports in the January-August period valued at US$3.15 billion, a surge of 19.8 percent from a year ago.
Fishery exports grew by 6.4 percent against the previous year to reach US$4 billion, with the US as the largest importer, accounting for 19.8 percent of the export value.
Japan and the Republic of Korea ranked second and third, representing 17.5 percent and 8.2 percent of the Vietnamese fishery export value, respectively.
