Henniger Beer Brings German Culture to Vietnam
German people with great love for beer
The history of brewing is about 6,000 years old and dates back to the Sumerians who discovered the fermentation process by chance. Babylonians and Egyptians then brewed beer. Teutons, ancient Germans, considered beer a product offered to the Gods and they produced the first beer in Hallstatt in 800 BC. Now, each beer producing establishment has its own brewing method based on age-old experience.
Germany is known as a true beer-loving nation, where beer is served and consumed everywhere. According to latest surveys, 79 per cent of German adults often drink beer. Sixty seven per cent of women and 91 per cent of men drink beer at least once a month. The Oktoberfest beer festival in Munich is a world-renowned festival celebrating beer. The festival was initiated by the Bayer Royal guards when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. Now, Oktoberfest is the largest festival in the world both in scale and the number of visitors. The festival attracts 6.5 million visitors and about 7,500 musicians from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Italy, France, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Poland. Musicians usually need to reserve a place to perform a full year in advance. In a beer camp of over 5,000 square metres, 5,500 hectolitres of beer is prepared for the 16 day festival. During the festival, about 750,000 chickens, 40,000 portions of pork sausages, 58,000 ham hocks, 200 stick fish and 75 cows are eaten. The capital city of Munich becomes the most attractive destination for visitors from all over the world every October.
Favourite German beer in Vietnam
Many Vietnamese people who have studied or study in Germany bring home German culture and the beer drinking habit. Some German beer trademarks have now become available in Vietnam. However, many people say that Henninger beer produced in Vietnam by the Dong Xuan Liquor Company (Dolico) still retains the specific features of German beer.
Henninger beer was produced in Southern Vietnam in the 1960s. The now Hanoi-based Henninger beer factory was built in 1996 and supplies high quality beer to the local market. To attain the traditional German beer flavour, Dolico has bought a licence to use the trademark and technology of the famous Henninger Company in Frankfurt am Main, a financial centre in Europe on the bank of the river Main. With modern technology and a production line imported from Germany, Dolico produces a traditional German beer from the best materials, such as malt from Denmark, and houblon and yeast from Germany. Also, the water supplied for beer production is examined by an office in Frankfurt am Main, ensuring that Henninger beer tastes the same in the world over.
Dolico is now one of the two most prestigious and largest beer producing establishments in Vietnam with an agent network in every corner of Vietnam. Dolico often provides Henninger beer for banquets in the German embassy and offices of German enterprises in Vietnam. With Henninger beer, Dolico offers Vietnamese people a taste of traditional German beer.
