Nearly 2.4 million turns of tourists visited the relics of Hue ancient capital in 11 months this year, up 25 percent against the same period last year.
Of the figure, some 800,000 came from China, Thailand, Italy, Spain, UK, the US, Canada and Australia.
So far this year, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue has organized 30 programs, including 11 national and international cultural, sports and tourism events as part of the National Tourism Year 2012 to lure visitors.
The province has also conducted a number of promotion activities to tourist attractions like Tam Giang and Thuan An beaches, and Lang Co Bay.
A number of measures have been taken to improve the quality of tourism services and update information on new tourist destinations.
Besides, the province also focused on upgrading accommodation facilities, contributing to attract 180,000 tourists, including 80,000 foreigners to the Hue Festival 2012, doubling the figure of the festival in 2010.
The number of tourists traveling by sea also sharply increased with an estimation of about 40,000 tourists, mainly from China, Hong Kong, Spain, UK, the US and Canada.
It is estimated that the total foreign arrivals to Viet Nam will surpass the set target of 6.5 million this year due to the current robust growth in the sector, the Sai gon Giai Phong daily cited a report from the National Administration of Tourism on November 28.
