To boost the Vietnam - Japan relationship, the Vietnam- Japan Business Forum was launched based on the cooperation between the Japan Business Association in Vietnam and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI). The forum helps significantly increase bilateral trade turnover, expand export markets, and create an effective business bridge connecting enterprises of the two countries.
VCCI President Vu Tien Loc affirmed that the forum aims to create an economic, trade and investment medium for Vietnam and Japan, formulate a dialogue channel for Vietnamese and Japanese businesses, open up the opportunity for the both sides to express opinions on governmental policies, and provide information on policies, regulations, markets and businesses, so as to build a bridge for the two countries’ businesses.
In recent years, the forum has provided information for Vietnamese enterprises and the Japanese business community in Vietnam by means of monthly bulletins. Each newsletter contains six pages (four pages in Vietnamese and two pages in English), carrying not only updated information and events, but also in-depth and directive market analyses. English contents delve into most objective views on investment situations and development potential in Vietnam. As of November 30, 2012, the Vietnam - Japan e- portal had 671,018 hits and 158,869 viewers, 681 articles in English, and 956 articles in Vietnamese. On average, more than 1,800 hits were counted each day.
In addition, the forum had very active participation of enterprises. Integrated conferences were organised in large scale and attracted a lot of businesses to join. Typical events included the “Workshop on Public Private Partnership (PPP)” in Hanoi on February 27, 2009, “Vietnam - Japan Economic Forum” in Hanoi on March 3, 2009, “Boosting handicraft exports to Japan” in Hanoi on January 26 and 27, 2010, “Vietnam - Japan (Fukuoka) Environmental Business Meeting” in Hanoi on March 25, 2011, “Vietnam - Japan (Fukuoka) Business Meeting” in Hanoi on January 18, 2012 and “Conference on IPO and M&A between Vietnam and Japan” in Hanoi on March 5,2012 and in Ho Chi Minh City on March 7, 2012.
According to the VCCI, the Vietnam - Japan Business Forum has organised many market survey tours for Vietnamese and Japanese companies, including a business delegation to Nemuro City, Hokkaido, Japan from August 27 to September 2, 2011; a Japanese market survey tour from September 11 to 17, 2011 for companies engaged in construction, mining, handicraft, mechanical machinery, banking, industrial development and other fields; or Japanese leadership skills training courses on August 16 in Haiphong City; human resources management in Japanese businesses - Lessons for Vietnamese SMEs on September 26 in Thanh Hoa province. The Organising Board welcomed delegations from the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and organised a Vietnam - Japan Business Matching event on September 24, 2012.
To support Vietnamese businesses in Japan, the forum hosted the Vietnam - Japan business exchange programme for supporting industry companies and the Vietnam - Japan (Fukuoka) Business Forum from October 27 to November 4, 2012. The visiting delegation consisted of leaders of 13 typical Vietnamese supporting industry enterprises.
According to the plan, in 2013, the forum will continue to maintain the Vietnam - Japan electronic portal (
www.vinajapan.com) and cover more specialised information in Japanese. Besides, the forum will release the publication "Vietnam - Japan: Strategic partners - Intimate friendship" in order to provide comprehensive information on Vietnam - Japan business, economic, political, cultural and educational relationships over the past 40 years. The forum will also provide new information for Vietnamese enterprises to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with Japanese businesses.
In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations, many landmark events will be organised in 2013, covering various aspects like economy, culture and politics. This year of celebration is a great opportunity to tighten Vietnam - Japan economic relations.
