Mekong Delta Targets Tra Fish Export of US$2 Bln
Mekong Delta provinces expect to bring tra fish (pangasius) export turnover to US$1.7 - 2 billion in 2013.
To fulfil this goal, the Mekong Delta will raise the catfish in about 6,000 ha of water surface this year, focusing in Dong Thap, An Giang and Ben Tre provinces and Can Tho City.
In 2012, the largest delta region in Vietnam used 5,910 ha of water surface to raise the catfish to produce 1.29 million tonnes of product, of which 645,000 tonnes were exported with a value of US$1.774 billion, down 3.4 per cent from 2011 due to price slumps.
