The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has acknowledged for the first time that Vietnamese shrimp exporters did not dump their products in the US market, according to the Vietnam Association of Shrimp Export and Processing (VASEP).

Under the DOC’s preliminary decision, applicable to the period from February 1, 2011 to January 31, 2012 in the seventh final results of administrative review (POR7), all Vietnamese mandatory and voluntary defendants will be subject to a zero-percent tariff, said VASEP.
The two mandatory defendants involved in this administrative review, namely Minh Phu Seafood Corporation and Nha Trang Seafood Company, will be subject to a zero tariff. Other companies will also be levied the same rate.

According to VASEP, this is the first time DOC acknowledged that all Vietnamese enterprises did not dump in the US since it started administrative review.

This decision brings hope to Vietnamese shrimp exporters amid a troubled market.

In 2012, the US was Vietnam’s second largest shrimp importer with US$454.5 million and accounting for 20 percent of Vietnam’s shrimp exports, just behind Japan.

In January 2013, the US surpassed Japan to become the largest importer of Vietnamese shrimp, with year-on-year growth of 36.9 percent.
