Dr Doan Duy Khuong, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), recently hosted a meeting with Mr Li Gang, Chairman of Sichuan International Trade Promotion Committee, China, at the VCCI head office in Hanoi.

Dr Khuong introduced VCCI’s functions and tasks and its 50-year history of construction and development. VCCI is a national organisation which assembles and represents the business community, employers and business associations of all economic sectors in Vietnam with the aim of protecting and assisting enterprises, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development and promoting economic, commercial and technological cooperation between Vietnam and the rest of the world on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.

He stressed that Vietnamese enterprises always attach importance to boosting cooperation with Chinese enterprises, especially those in Sichuan province, and always hope to further expand economic cooperation with more localities, rather than only those on the border as now.

He expected two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and China to reach US$60 billion in 2013.

Mr Li Gang said Sichuan businesses wish to strengthen relations and promote investment cooperation with VCCI and Vietnamese enterprises. He also wants to see increased exchange of information about commercial demands in Vietnam and Sichuan, China.

He proposed VCCI increase business delegations to explore the market, and take part in trade fairs and conferences in Sichuan to seek cooperation opportunities for projects.

He asked VCCI to organise business delegations to attend Sichuan Trade Fair; International Import, Export and Trade Expo in June 2013 in Chengdu City - the capital of Sichuan province; and International Logistics Expo in October 2013 in Sichuan.

Dr Doan Duy Khuong and Mr Li Gang agreed to intensify information exchange and establish a panel in charge of maintaining bilateral relations to deal with urgent matters in the coming time.
