The international cooperation has contributed significantly to attracting the funds of international donors and partners for the management of natural resources and environment. To ensure harmony between the requirements of economic development and protection of natural resources and environment, in addition to the promotion of domestic resources, there should be integration and international cooperation, in order to protect the environment for targets sustainable development. Vietnam has issued many policies to encourage foreign donors to invest in natural resources and environment to minimise the environmental pollution getting more serious and protect natural resources.
In 2012, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has expanded bilateral and multilateral cooperation, especially the activities of international cooperation in the field of climate change, environment, water resources, hydrometeorology and land management; and diversified funding to support the implementation of the tasks of the industry. Currently, the Ministry is in charge and participates in 58 foreign assistance projects with a total budget of nearly US$430 million. Since 2009, the Ministry has developed and advocated for programs and projects to cope with climate change in Vietnam with the capital of about US$850 million. Strategic partnership between Vietnam and some countries, such as Denmark, the Netherlands has been established in a number of areas, such as responding to climate change, water resource management. The Ministry received valuable support and the effectiveness of many countries to implement the strategic action program of the Ministry, such as the support from Japan, New Zealand, France, Finland, Sweden, Australia, as well as from many other countries.
Strong and effective support of the international organizations in Vietnam, such as the UN agencies, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank has played an important role in the mobilization of multilateral financing resources for the activities of the Ministry.
In a meeting with the sponsoring partners, Minister Nguyen Minh Quang stressed that natural resources and environment sector needs to strengthen multifaceted cooperation between the Ministry and international partners. 2012 marked the 10th anniversary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in the context of the world economy and in the country getting more difficult, but the natural resources and environment sector gained important achievements, contributing to the development sustainable development of the country.
In the period 2011 to 2020, with the orientation of international cooperation activities such as: raising awareness and communication; natural disasters warning program; models of adaptation and mitigation of climate change, protection of water resources and mineral. Vietnam pays due attention to and desires to cooperate with international organizations.
