Mr Chainarong Limpkittisin Managing Director of Reed Tradex Co., Ltd., the exhibitions’ organisers, said: “Five years ago, when we first conceived “Vietnam Manufacturing Expo,” the exhibition that we have scheduled to organise in this city this coming September, it has been our commitment to be part of the mechanism that can help strengthen the development of Vietnam’s supporting industries. Now, the exhibition has grown strong and become successful in helping to speed up that development. And, this year, the success will return. We are working in full stream to make Vietnam Manufacturing Expo another memorable experience by including contents and activities that truly benefit Vietnam’s supporting industries in enhancing their productivity with breakthrough technologies and know-how.”

Reed Tradex has realised the growing importance of supporting industries in Vietnam as the country is joining global supply chains and value chains. And the continuous influx of FDIs would further elaborate the country’s attractiveness as the preferred investment destination for the industrial sector will remain strong with promising outlooks. This year, Vietnam Manufacturing Expo does more than help parts makers find the technologies you want but also provides you with more opportunities to meet your buyers, expand your markets, widen your networks, and increase knowledge and experiences, because two powerful exhibitions are joining forces with us to help over 10,000 parts makers and manufacturing industrialists from across Vietnam upgrade production precision and products’ quality, sell and subcontract parts, and expand businesses beyond the border.

At the exhibition, local industrial manufacturers will have a chance not only to source the latest of innovations, solutions and services from over 200 exhibiting companies but also to meet new buyers while keeping abreast of the latest manufacturing innovations. For overseas investors, it is an opportunity to hook up with the local suppliers so that they can better manage their needs to import industrial parts. In addition, they will also gain new knowledge and manufacturing trends in seminars and technology presentations while expanding their business networks with assistance of our Business Matchmaking and Agent Wanted services.
Also co-located with the show will be the 5th Vietnam-Japan Exhibition on Supporting Industries in Hanoi (SIE 2013) which will facilitate and shortcut the procurement processes of industrial parts and components for automobiles, motorbikes, electric-electronics, metal and plastic outwork, packaging materials as Japanese exhibitors will display accessories they expect to localize in Vietnam while Vietnamese parts manufacturers will exhibit the products they can produce.

Vietnam Supporting Industries Forum: “Technology Transfer – A Turning Point of Vietnamese Industries”
Vietnam and Japan have been collaborating for years on business and industrial development projects and Japanese investment and manufacturing technologies are playing important roles in Vietnam. Vietnam needs to enhance the quality of human resources to strengthen national competitiveness and attract more FDIs. On the other hand, Japan would like to expand business collaboration to develop the effective partner. Therefore, “Technology Transfer” is the key answer to win-win business collaboration.

Vietnam Manufacturing Forum 2013 under theme “Technology Transfers– A Turning Point of Vietnamese Industries”, organized on May 9 in Hanoi by Reed Tradex and JETRO Hanoi, is a pre-show of Vietnam Manufacturing Expo 2013 and the 5th Vietnam-Japan Exhibition on Supporting Industries in Hanoi (SIE 2013). The forum offered visions, best practices and experiences by government and private sectors to keep the shorter distance for Vietnamese and Japanese industrialists to achieve their mutual objectives accordingly. It is also considered an exceptional platform for key industry players in Vietnam and other countries to get a glimpse of future business potentials, possible investments, business expansion, and partnerships for Vietnamese parts manufacturers and related supporting industrialists.

Mr Hideo SUZUKI, Minister of Embassy of Japan
The economic relations between the two countries are being remarkably deepened. This can be recognized by the number of Japanese companies which are members of the Japanese Business Association in Vietnam (JBAV). It’s now over 1,100. The Japanese enterprises located in the two biggest industrial parks in Vietnam have created over 100,000 jobs for Vietnamese workers and there are so many more. As the biggest ODA contributor to Vietnam, Japan has been closely cooperating with Vietnam in solving the urgent issues related to socio- economic infrastructure building.

Industrial development along with related capacity building has always been at the heart of the bilateral cooperation and it will be so in the future. For example, the Japanese Government have started cooperation to elaborate the "Vietnam Industrialization Strategy for 2020" based on Japan-Vietnam Joint Statement signed by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Japanese prime minister Noda Yoshihiko in 2011. This is the crucial policy tool to integrate the Vietnamese economy in the regional and global setting. This strategy will also enhance significantly the development of supporting industry in Vietnam which in turn will generate jobs throughout the territory. The Japanese Government has also started recently to use ODA instruments to encourage Japanese SMEs, very strong in the field of supporting industries to invest more abroad, including Vietnam.

Mr Hirokazu Yamaoka, Chief Representative, JETRO Hanoi Office
Vietnam is one of the promising countries for Japanese investors. By the year 2020, Vietnam will become an industrialized country with sufficient supply of raw materials and basic fuels. Supporting Industries (SI) play extremely vital roles in Vietnam, especially the parts manufacturing sector which is a fundamental factor to determine the growth of Supporting Industries--be it the motorbike, automotive, or electronics sector--and also the economy and society. A strong manufacturing industry of supporting industries can bring benefits to the country such as reduced costs of parts imports, higher local skills, enhanced productivity efficiency, superior product added values, healthier economy, etc.

Japan is now the leading FDI partner of Vietnam. The numbers of Japan’s new investment licenses in Vietnam gradually increased, with 234 licenses in 2011 and 317 licenses in 2012. The number of Japanese-invested projects in Vietnam last year accounted for 25 percent of the total FDI projects licensed in the year, and valued at 50 percent of the total FDI capital.

Manufacturing industry is Japan’s most important investment in Vietnam.

Mr Ta Hoang Linh, Deputy General Director, Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade)
B2B (Business to Business) exhibitions are good indicators for business and industrial growths. The onsite investment is a long-term plan, especially for business expansion, new market coverage as well as product line introduction and service level developments. The supporting industries exhibition will be a good chance for domestic companies to get know-how and new manufacturing technologies from foreign investors.

Trade and investment relation between Vietnam and Japan has seen a remarkable growth over the last four decades. By 2012, the two-way trade turnover of Vietnam and Japan topped at US$24.7 billion, increased by 16.4 percent over 2011, and Japan became the third largest trade partner of Vietnam, behind the U.S and China.

Mr Chainarong Limpkittisin Managing Director of Reed Tradex Co., Ltd.
As the year 2013 also marked the 40th anniversary of Japan – Vietnam Friendship and we are honored to become a selected exhibition by the Executive Committee for Vietnam-Japan Friendship Year to celebrate this important timeline with the co-location of Japanese Monozukuri Technology Exhibition where industrialists can get a glimpse of tomorrow’s technologies.

The automotive and supporting industries of Vietnam has become flourishing in the past decade due to strong labor force and supportive government policies especially towards overseas investors. Supporting industries play extremely vital roles in Vietnam. A strong parts manufacturing sector can contribute many benefits to the country such as reduced costs of parts imports, higher local skills, enhanced productivity efficiency, superior product values, healthier economy, etc.

As ASEAN Economic Community is approaching in the year 2015, the exchange of machinery, technology, knowledge and other products have become easier than in the past. In one sense, this helps speed up the advancement of the industrial and commercial sectors but at the same time, industrialists have to keep improving themselves for the rising competition from other countries in the region with promising industrial capacities as well. Many foreigners believe in the growth potential of the supporting industries and that their development will foster Vietnam’s manufacturing sector and economy. At present, many foreign investors are strongly confident to invest in Vietnam. The continued foreign direct investment in Vietnam is proof that the manufacturing and supporting industries here not only have a bright future, but also play vital roles in the “healthy” economy.

Mr Okada Kinya, General Manager, LBP Purchasing Division, Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd. Que Vo Factory
Canon Vietnam started operation in Vietnam in 2001 and mainly bought parts and components from Japanese and FDI suppliers because we found it very difficult to buy products made in Vietnam. However, since 2012, Canon has increased the percentage of purchasing locally-made components to 64 percent from around 30 Vietnamese suppliers thanks to the improvement of Vietnam’s supporting industries. We strongly support the development of supporting industries in Vietnam and really want to buy more and more products made in Vietnam.
