Vietnam, France Strengthen Scientific Cooperation
Within the framework of the France - Vietnam scientific cooperation, Mr Michel Laurent, President of the French Research Institute for Development (IRD) will visit Vietnam in late May 2013. During the visit, he is expected to attend a ceremony to open the European NOPOOR project in Vietnam; to pay a visit to the RICE International Joint Laboratory and to meet leaders of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, and the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Led by IRD, the European NOPOOR project "Enhancing knowledge for renewed policies against poverty” involves more than one hundred researchers from 20 universities and research centres in 17 countries over a five-year period. NOPOOR is the most important research programme funded by the European Union helping fight poverty in developing countries in the coming years. The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences is the Vietnamese partner of this project.
IRD President Michel Laurent will sign two agreements to strengthen the framework for Vietnam - France scientific cooperation relations. The first agreement will be signed with the University of Science of Ho Chi Minh City to promote the development of new research partnerships, including research work on mangroves in Vietnam, starting from the end of 2013. The second agreement with the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), the Institute of Information Technology under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and the University of La Rochelle (France) will initiate research projects on information and communication technologies at USTH.
