Work Starts on Three-wire Cable Car System in Sapa
The construction on a three-wire cable car system to serve tourists from Sapa to Muong Hoa Valley and Fansipan Peak was kicked off in Sapa Town, Lao Cai province on November 1, 2013.
The objective of the project is to establish a modern high-grade tourist complex in Sapa and create tourism products for Sapa. The cable car project in Sapa will be constructed in two phases. The first phase includes the construction of a cable car system and a cultural tourism complex started to be built in 2013 and completed in 2014. The second phase comprises of the construction of hotels and entertainment zones. The characteristic feature of the project is a unique three-wire cable system, the first of its kind in Asia. And, this will be the longest, highest and most complex three-wire cable system in world and it will not be equipped with conventional rescue system because the three-wire system will bring all passengers to the foot of the mountain securely and safely in any circumstances.
The cable car to Fansipan is 6.2 km long, starting from Sapa Town, crossing Muong Hoa Valley to reach tourist destinations along and the top of Fansipan at an altitude of 2,900-3,000 m. The highest peak of Fansipan is 3,143 m high.
The project is invested by Fansipan - Sapa Cable Tourism Service Co., Ltd., a member of Sun Group, which successfully built the Ba Na cable car project.
