Japanese ODA Loan Provided to Da Nhim Hydropower Plant Expansion Project
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) recently signed a Japanese ODA loan agreement with Vietnam to provide a Japanese ODA loan of up to 7.515 billion yen for the Da Nhim Hydropower Plant Expansion Project.
The objective of this project is to increase the power generating capacity of Da Nhim Hydropower Plant in the southern area of Vietnam, especially at peak times, by installing an additional power generator, thereby contributing to economic growth and increased the international competitiveness of the area. The loan will be applied to civil works and equipment necessary for expanding the hydropower plant, consulting services, and the like. Da Nhim Hydropower Plant (160 MW) was constructed in 1959 with reparations from Japan to Vietnam, and the operation was started in 1964. In 1997, a Japanese ODA loan supported the renovation of the plant and its transmission/conversion facilities which had deteriorated. Because of the history of Da Nhim Hydropower Plant, Vietnam has high expectations for further support from Japan.
JICA will continue to provide agile support for Vietnam's development issues, while pursuing integrated implementation of a wide range of ODA assistance, such as ODA loans, technical cooperation and grant aid.
