Gold Long John International Co. Ltd (GLJI) has reached a settlement agreement with Microsoft Vietnam and Lac Viet being sued in the court of Dong Nai for software copyright violation last year, according to BSA | The Software Alliance on March 6.
Accordingly to the agreement, GLJI would defer to all demands made by the copyright owners, Microsoft and Lac Viet, including making a public apology and payment for damages at 100% of the value of infringement discovered, which is over 1 billion VND in this case.
BSA and its members are now committed to undertaking more civil actions in the coming weeks, thus sending a signal to companies that may still be using unlicensed software to legalize their software as soon as possible, or face possible legal action.
Mr. Vu Xuan Thanh, the chief inspector of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said: “I encourage affected parties to resort to legal proceedings as I believe in exploring all remedies provided by our court system.” He informed that software copyright enforcement would be a vital part of the Inspectorate’s focus this year. “We will step up inspections, spot checks and penalization of software piracy. We will rely on the software copyright owners’ piracy reports to expedite our enforcement efforts in 2014.”
