The third Red Flamboyant Festival - Haiphong 2014 opened in the northern port city of Haiphong from May 9 to 11, 2014. This was a good chance for Haiphong to promote and introduce the image, build up the brand name, and raise the position and prestige to international friends. The event also helped the city to promote cultural diversity, intensify tourism promotion activities and enhance tourism product quality.

The highlight of this year's festival is a “Haiphong in red flamboyant flowers" gala at Haiphong Theatre Square on May 10, which was aired live on VTV1 channel of State-run Vietnam Television.

In addition, many cultural and artistic activities were organised, including Red River Delta Food Festival, Red Flamboyant Dragon Dance Final Contest, water puppetry performances, folk singing performances at Tam Bac Lake, Aodai (Traditional Dress) Festival, Red Flamboyant Fashion Week, exhibitions on tourism photos and paintings, Haiphong - Bach Long Vi tour opening, tramcar service inauguration, and concert performance at the Haiphong Opera House.

On this occasion, Haiphong City organised a number of side events to inform the nomination of Cat Ba Island as a World Natural Heritage Site to UNESCO.
