VNPT Restructuring Plan Okayed

The PM has agreed the Restructuring Plan for the Vietnam Posts and telecommunications Group (VNPT) in the 2014-2015 period.
The VNPT will play a key role in Vietnam’s telecom sector and contribute to socio-economic development, security, national defence, national industrialization and modernization.
 
Under the plan, the State-run group will specialize in trading telecom products and services, IT and multimedia communications, consultations, surveys, designs, installments, maintenance, repairing, renting of telecom equipment and projects; researching, developing, manufacturing and producing telecom and IT products and distributing IT and telecom products.
 
In addition, the Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services (MobiFone), the Central Post Office and the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology will be split from the VNPT and added to the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications.
 
General and convalescent hospitals in Ha Noi, Hai Phong and HCMC, telecom and IT colleges in Ha Nam, Tien Giang and Thai Nguyen will be put under local control.
 
VNPI is in charge of restructuring 63 local branches and withdrawing non-core investment from Bao Minh Insurance Corporation, 53 joint-stock companies, four limited liability companies, four funds and one commercial bank.
 
The State holds 100 percent of charter capital of VNPT. 
 
VNPI consists of subsidiary accounting units namely VNPT – Net, 63 local branches; VNPT Research and Development Center.  
 
The group holds 50 percent of charter capital in 18 companies.
