CPI Goes Up Slightly in June

The country’s consumer price index (CPI) for June rose slightly by 0.3 percent over May and 4.98 percent over a year ago, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
In its most recently released statistics, the GSO reported that the June figure brought the country’s half-year inflation rate to 4.77 percent.
 
Among the baskets of goods used for the CPI calculation, pharmaceuticals and healthcare services recorded highest growth (0.74 percent), while the education sector saw the lowest (0.01 percent).
 
The overwhelming majority of goods and services, such as food, tobacco, footwear, garment, construction materials and home appliances, experienced monthly growth of less than 1 percent.
 
Notably, prices of post and telecom services in June declined 0.13 percent compared to a month ago.
 
The GSO also reported that the domestic gold price dropped 0.12 percent in June, while the US dollar value went up 0.49 percent.
