Samsung Vina Launches Social Welfare Programme

On December 1, 2004, Samsung Vina electronic company officially announced a social welfare programme "From heart to heart" worth US$112,800 over three years (2004-2006) for the Orthopaedics Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. It is a joint effort between Samsung Vina and Samsung Medical Centre (SMC) in providing medical training, plastic surgery and advanced equipment to Vietnamese hospitals. Earlier, in a5-year programme from 2003-2007, Samsung Vina funded Hanoi Pediatrics Hospital with US$250,000 for medicines, equipment, training and treatment of child patients at the SMC in Korea. In 2004 alone, 7 child patients were sent for plastic surgery at the SMC, 11 doctors from Hanoi Pediatrics Hospital were trained, 47 children treated and 3 children received treatment directly from SMC doctors in Vietnam

Mr. Chung Sungsoo, an SMC doctor, expressed the hope that the assistance this time would contribute to the improvement of medical treatment in Vietnam and expand the co-operation between medical centres in the two countries.
