Plastic companies in Vietnam need to proactively innovate their machinery and technology to make hi-tech products.
Some famous household plastic brands in Vietnam such as Cho Lon, Dai Dong Tien and Song Long have dominated the local market and partly pushed back imported products from Thailand, Indonesia and China thanks to its reasonable price and quality.
According to Vietnam Plastics Association (VPA), in 2013, Vietnam exported plastic products to 151 countries with total quota of US$1.8 billion, an increase of 13.3 percent compared to 2012. Vietnamese made plastics products are used widely in various fields of agriculture, industry, telecommunications, construction with an expected growth of 13.5 percent-16.5 percent in 2014.
However, the biggest challenge of Vietnam is weak capacity, production technology is still limited. Especially, plastic companies in Vietnam are not focusing on high class product segment, which is then dominated by foreign companies. Experts say that Vietnamese companies should proactively invest in market research, modern machinery and technology, design capacity.
