Construction Paint Market: Diversification of Products

Nowadays, when building a house, people can choose from a wide variety of building materials, especially paints. However, consumers feel that it’s difficult to find the most suitable kind for their houses and pockets.

Promotional programmes

In the later part of the year, when the construction and decoration of houses is in full swing, paint companies reactivate their promotional activities. For instance, SPEC launched the programme with 100 Wave Alpha motorbikes as prizes, NIPPON with Colours of Nippon Paint. Besides SPEC, Weatherbond, Dulux Weathershield and Levis with ready mixed paints, Mykolor, SPEC, ICI and Jotun offer in-place mixing service for the benefit of customers. Last November, EXPO marketed mixing equipment throughout the country. With the new equipment, customers can be sure of desired colours at any time, without fear of paint shortage. For its part, Mykolor developed software Kolormax showing exact colour before the house is painted. At a recent press conference in Ho Chi Minh city, Mr C. Pimolsri, Mykolor Marketing Manager, said that Mykolor has now 45 and by the end of 2004, will have 62 consulting centres nation-wide to advise customers on the colour of their houses together with technical assistance and service. In fact, all paint companies have engaged in a fierce competition.

Make a choice

There are at present some 60 paint trademarks in Vietnam. It is in fact complicated for customers to make a decision on colours and prices. They become even more confused with promotional programmes and must finally let consultants decide on the paints and service. Some companies claimed themselves as professional in all colours and in all countries, some have proved themselves at buildings, bridges and especially the 22nd SEAgames projects in Vietnam, while some others have simply introduced their products with awards of Vietnamese high quality products, impressive trademarks, and ISO certificates. Besides ordinary paints, there are also special paints for imitation of wood, marble, copper, for tennis courts, airport runways and ships.

As the producers offer a multi choice, consumers should make the best choice suitable to their taste and financial resources.
