Agricultural Exports Fall 13.2 Pct in Q1

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said the export value of agricultural, forest and aquatic products was estimated at US$2.12 billion in March 2015, totalling nearly US$6.13 billion in the first quarter, down 13.2 percent year on year.
 
Particularly, agricultural products brought home US$2.92 billion, down 15.1 percent, seafood exports fetched US$1.27 billion, down 20.6 percent, and forest product exports earned US$1.5 billion, down 0.4 percent.
 
In the first quarter of 2015, key exports like coffee, rice, seafood and woodwork saw a decline in both volume and value. The export value of tea, cashew and pepper rose on higher prices while shipments dropped.
 
The ministry said Vietnam spent US$1.81 billion importing agricultural, aquatic and forest products in March and nearly US$5.17 billion in the first three months, up 3.4 percent from a year earlier.
