Viet Tien Named Best Garment Co.

The Viet Tien Garment Company (VTEC) in HCM City has been named the best enterprise in the garment and embroidery industry for 2004. The company, which makes shirts, trousers and T-shirts, has also been selected as one of Vietnam's top five commodity enterprises in 2004.

VTEC earned US$130 million from exports this year, 85 per cent more than in 2000. The company sells its products to 52 countries worldwide, with the US market accounting for 35 per cent and the EU 25 per cent of its total exports.

VTEC has won 153 medals of different kinds at domestic and international trade fairs. Nguyen Dinh Truong, VTEC's general director, said the company has established more enterprises and joint ventures in Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Tien Giang and Vinh Long provinces and Can Tho City, creating jobs for 5,000 more labourers.
