Vietnam Postal Services: Growth for Integration

At the ceremony receiving Labour Order Third Class, Ms. Le Thi Kim Ha, Director of Vietnam Postal Services (VPS) said that in the past 15 years, VPS has recorded high growth rates and productivity contributing significantly to the socio-economic development.

Throughout its development, VPS has always achieved its targets. In 1999-2003, as the competition was harder, VPS has modernised technology and recorded high growth rates of 15.02 per cent and productivity of 24.21 per cent. The turnover increased from VND232.27 billion in 1999 to VND404 billion in 2003, up 73.78 per cent. The volume of works increased on average of 11.12 per cent a year (83.51 per cent in ordinary postal packages, 138.67 per cent in registered packages, 126 per cent in domestic and 44.7 per cent in international deliveries).

VPS has five business units with offices in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Quy Nhon. The company has expanded four centres and an enterprise with 230 delivery trucks on 35 lines to 64 provinces and cities and 15 lines inside Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang, Quy Nhon running 40,000 km a day. The company has also used other means of transport such as air-planes, trains, boats and rented cars for postal deliveries.

The company has provided Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with two modern postal selection systems together with other equipment such as envelop makers, Datapost conveyors. Hanoi centre has been expanded to an area of over 4,000 sq. metres, improvement will also be made in Ho Chi Minh City and Danang.

To improve the postal services, besides the continued training of the workforce, VPS has conducted technical research, completing 12 research studies of the company and 5 of the corporation upgrading the performance of the company.

Efficient operations and good management will ensure the sustainable development of the company, Ms. Kim Ha added.
