This is an action philosophy, in-depth perception and social responsibility of Khe Sim Co., Ltd, an outstanding coal producer affiliated to Dong Bac Corporation. With its serious care for environmental protection, Khe Sim has contributed greatly and directly to the sustainable development of local business community.
From strong mind to concrete action
Director Dinh Van Toan said, "In my opinion, environment is very important to our life, society, and sustainable development of the economy in general and the business community in particular. Currently, most companies are fully aware of environmental protection. Upgrading technology, applying clean technology solutions to business activities, strengthening control of related issues to prevent pollution and minimise environmental impacts are becoming development trends in the upcoming time. And, Khe Sim is no exception.”
For years, Khe Sim has launched various solutions and measures to uphold the responsibility of the political system of the unit and take care of environmental protection. On the one hand, to limit or reduce impacts of coal mining on the environment, Khe Sim has actively reorganised production, changed disposal technologies, and protect the boundary of landfill dikes to protect dwellers and infrastructure. Over the past years, the company has planted 150 ha of May Vi pines, including 120 ha of trees of 6-7 years, 30 ha of forests aged 1-2 years, and 67.8 ha of acacia mangium. The firm has also built a regulatory reservoir of 80,000 cubic metres to serve livelihoods and environmental protection.
Furthermore, the company invested over VND700 billion to purchase heavy machines and equipment like DM drillers, KOMATSU dump trucks and D9 bulldozers to minimise negative impacts on the environment. Non-electric blasting differential methods and sprayers were effectively deployed to boost coal production and mitigate environmental impacts.
Specifically, Khe Sim - Lo Tri - Deo Nai environmental rehabilitation project implemented by Khe Sim is expected to bring huge environmental impact once it goes into operation. The company also set up a green boundary to separate Cam Pha City from units of Vinacomin and Dong Bac Corporation, regulated water surface and groundwater, and improved pollution caused by mining activities.
Practical evidence
With its environmental protection innovations, Khe Sim Company emerged as a bright spot of the coal industry because of its contributions to environmental protection and natural landscape beautification in Quang Ninh.
The company’s humanitarian thoughts and deeds are appreciated by local governments. In 2015, the flooding, the worst for the past 40 years, sank many coal mines like Cua Ong and Mong Duong areas. However, the coal mine operated by Khe Sim Company starting from Quang Hanh Ward to Cam Tay Ward suffered from slight impacts. This proves that environmental protection and construction of landscape policies of Khe Sim Company are right, fundamental and effective.
For years, Khe Sim Company has been awarded the Developing Brand Award from the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations; certificates of merits from Vietnam National Coal, Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin), and Provincial People’s Committee. The company was also awarded the certificate of excellence in environmental protection by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
