Dong Van Karst Plateau Attends APGN in Japan

A delegation of the Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark, led by Mr Ma Ngoc Giang, Deputy Director of Management Board of Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark, attended the 4th International Conference of Asia Pacific Geoparks Network (APGN) in San'in Kaigan Geopark in Hyogo and Tottori Prefectures, Japan. The delegation comprised of officials from Vietnam National Committee for Unesco and the Management Board of Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark.
 
At the official conference, the delegation participated in many important programmes like Executive Board Meeting and voted for APGN’s engagement into new institutions of the Global Network of National Geoparks (GGN), and issues related to the transition from Global Geoparks affiliated to GGN into Unesco Global Geoparks, and sought supports of National Committees for official Unesco Global Geoparks Programme. In addition, the group had many practical activities to introduce the images of Dong Van Karst Plateau.
 
 
The delegation also joined field trips to some geological, cultural and biodiversity heritage sites successfully tapping tourism potential. The visitors also coordinated with Vietnam’s underway geopark, Krong-No, to organise a booth at Geofair held in the campus of Tottori University of Environmental Studies.
 
At the closing ceremony, the GGN Executive Board announced the admissions of nine new global geopark members (five in Europe and four in Asia), bringing its memberships to 120.
 
After the conference, the Vietnamese delegation visited the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan to exchange tourism development information and asked the embassy to support Ha Giang province to deliver publications to overseas Vietnamese and tourists in Japan. The embassy also recommended Ha Giang to improve some essentials to attract high-income tourists from Japan, including service attitude, sanitation, food hygiene, and residence quality.
