Industrial Areas Flourish

Along with the development of agriculture - farmers – rural area, Hau Giang province also devoted much attention to industrial investment under planned strategy. Thus, the industrial development in the province constantly flourishes, contributing to economic growth and rapid transformation of local economic structure towards industrialization and modernization.
Mr Huynh Thanh Phong, Director of Department of Industry and Trade, said that identifying industrial development was the shortest way to help Hau Giang escape from agricultural area so as soon as the new division (2004), Hau Giang provincial leaders have prioritized planning concentrated IZs; creating premise to attract investment for industrial development, promoting local economic restructuring. With the location in the area linking the Eastern region of Hau River to Ca Mau peninsula, being a bridge between Can Tho City and Kien Giang - Bac Lieu - Soc Trang, Hau Giang also owns advantages in terms of agricultural raw materials and seafood. This is a solid foundation for the Hau Giang industry development.

Currently the province of Hau Giang has 2 IPs and 8 ICs with a total area of ​​1093.6 hectares. Up to now, the IPs have attracted 71 investment projects and currently have 34 projects in operation, the total registered capital reached VND79,518 billion. In which, many domestic and foreign projects with large scale have been implemented in the province, such as: Seafood Minh Phu - Hau Giang JSC; Song Hau Power Center; Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing Ltd. (Hong Kong); Number One Beverage Co.; and DHG Pharmaceutical Company.

Hau Giang always creates the best conditions for enterprises to confidently invest in and develop production and business activities, so that the industrial production in the province is growing strongly. If in 2004, the industrial production value of Hau Giang reached about VND2,000 billion, after 10 years this value increased by nearly 3.75 times, reaching VND7,000 billion. The number of industrial and handicraft businesses and facilities increase from 2,500 (2004) to over 4,300 establishments, enterprises engaged in manufacturing industry, handicrafts.

Currently, the main industry of Hau Giang is the processing industry, accounting for 97 percent of industrial production value of the whole province. To enhance the value of industrial production, increase export capacity, lobbying enterprises to change technology and production processes, invest in renewing machinery and product diversification is paid attention by the province. Every year, the Department of Trade and Industry to implement the extension of the scheme to support machinery, advanced equipment in production and processing for the industrial-handicraft manufacturing establishments. Particularly in 2015, there are 4 schemes to support machines from the national industrial promotion funding, with a total budget of VND1.6 billion. The province also implemented 15 projects supporting advanced machinery in the production and processing of rice, confectionery and mechanics with a total budget of VND1,580 million from the budget for local industrial promotion.

Besides the achievements, potential for industrial development of Hau Giang still untapped due to some resistance. To remove "bottlenecks" and create motivational push toward rapid, sustainable and efficient development in addition to the preferential policies of the central, Mr Phong said the next time Hau Giang also issued many preferential policies for investment and development and promoting investment in building socio-economic infrastructures, especially transport infrastructure. The province will focus investment in completing infrastructure of IPs, giving priority to the processing industry, mechanical engineering; accelerating the construction of power plants, fish processing plants, paper processing plant ...

The province is also encouraging and supporting enterprise in technological innovation; vigorously develop industries with competitive advantages, produce exports, attract more workers. At the same time, the province accelerates the implementation of public promotion scheme under Decision 207/QD-Committee and Decision 24/2014/QD-provincial People's Committee; about effective management and use of local and central industrial promotion funds to enhance the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises in the province in the integration process.
