The Vietnamese customs sector will take any measure necessary to achieve VND275 trillion of revenue, said Mr Nguyen Van Can, General Director of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, at the teleconference on October 11 that reviewed activities in the third quarter and previewed missions in the fourth quarter of 2016.
General Director Nguyen Van Can said the customs sector obtained outstanding results in the third quarter which were recognised by the Ministry of Finance and the Government. Specifically, the results of reforming administrative procedures, facilitating exportation, reducing clearance time, implementing construction projects and drafting regulations were appreciated by the business community. He added that post-clearance inspection, control and supervision and specialised inspection in couple with customs clearance requests produced positive results. With effective approaches, post-clearance inspection forces achieved encouraging results. Anti-smuggling forces actively probed into suspected cases and unearthed many serious cases, e.g. wrong declaration for tonnes of ivory. Furthermore, internal inspection, specialised inspection and sudden inspections also had positive results.

General Director Can urged the sector to take every measure necessary to collect VND275 trillion of revenue for the State budget as assigned. He urged customs agencies to prevent new debts, control and counter leakage. The General Department of Customs will strictly punish units and individuals found to cause a rise in wrongdoings.

Currently, many local customs authorities already finished their budget collection tasks, including Danang Customs and Hue Customs. Ms Nguyen Thi Thanh Van, Deputy General Director of the General Department of Customs, explained that the strong growth was seen in these localities because automobile imports surged in Danang Port. Furthermore, big exports and imports brought in more value than the same period in 2015. In the first eight months, the Danang Customs Department collected VND2,354 billion, exceeding its assigned target by 7 per cent.

Since smuggling and trade fraud tend to increase from now to the end of the year, the General Department requested anti-smuggling forces to crack down on smuggling rings and asked for focus on prohibited goods, high-tax goods and health-affecting items. The sector will speed up the progress of connecting the National Single Window (NSW) and helping enterprises to deal with difficulties and reduce customs clearance time.
