Major projects in HCM City to Be Kicked off in 2005

 

In 2005, Ho Chi Minh City will start the construction of many important projects that will give the city a new face lift.

 

East-West highway:

 

Thu Thiem tunnel and highway

The project includes 3 packages with loans from JBIC (Japan Bank International Cooperation). The total length is 21.89km with 1.49km of tunnel, 5 fly-overs, 8 bridges, 5 intersections, 7-10 walks and 3 repaired bridges. The total investment is VND8,864 billion and the project will be completed by 2007. Presently, 96 per cent of the land compensation has been completed, 1,352 out of nearly 3,000 households have been resettled. The land clearance and resettlement will be completed in 2005.

 

Thu Thiem bridge across Saigon river

The construction of the bridge will begin in 2005.  The technical design has been approved; test drilling started and site clearance is underway.

 

Phu My bridge - modern suspension bridge

The bridge is to improve the ring planned for socio-economic development in 2020, linking with the East-West highway and connecting HCMC with Trung Luong, Dong Nai and Vung Tau.  The total investment is VND1,806 billion. Land clearance and resettlement are underway on 16.82 ha. The project will start the construction in early August 2005 and be completed in early June 2008.

 

Thu Thiem new urban area

In 2005, HCMC People’s Committee will approve the construction of new projects in Thu Thiem new urban area such as international trade centre and observation tower. The land clearance and resettlement will be completed to build major projects for the new urban area.

 

Tan Thuan bridge 2 open to traffic

The construction of the bridge started in September 2004 and is in the process of completion. The bridge will be open to technical traffic before April 30, 2005.

 

Other projects:

Upgrading Nam Ky Khoi Nghia - Nguyen van Troi Road

The upgrading section from Truong Son to Dien Bien Phu will cost VND852.1 billion with over VND778 billion for land compensation. The road upgrading together with those of Cong Hoa road (completed) and Truong Chinh road (underway) will form the main artery linking the city centre with Trans-Asia highway. The project will be completed by December 2007.

 

Sub-way project

Two sub-way lines (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong and Ben Thanh-Western bus terminal) by Siemens group (Germany) will be submitted for approval in April 2005. The total length is 20km with an investment of US$937 million. The land clearance for the two terminals is underway and cost some VND50 billion.

 

Monorail project

Marubeni and Hitachi (Japan) will complete the feasibility report in February 2005. The line has been approved by HCMC People’s Committee in September 2004 with the length of 21km linking 23-9 park with Quang Trung software park. The project is under consideration for the most suitable option: underground, street level or elevated rail.

 

Tramway project

The city is seeking financial support from the French government to study a tramway project of Saigon-Cholon-Western bus terminal. The project will be 12km long with 16 stops linking Thu Thiem ferry landing with Western bus terminal. The total investment is estimated at US$50 million.

  • Hoa Binh
