VTT with Cost-effective International Calling Solution 

Victory Telecommunication Technologies Ltd. VIB Forum’s reporter Phan Nam held an interview with Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, VTT Sales & Marketing Director, about the prospects for Vietnam’s telecommunication sector.

We have witnessed rapid changes in making international phone calls in Vietnam as well as the emergence of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) that is considered globally as the replacement for traditional domestic and international calling. In Vietnam we have been using VoIP for some time with the 171, 177, and 178 services. Can you explain how this new VoIP is different from what we have been using in Vietnam?

When we talk about VoIP, we are talking about the method of how your voice goes from one location to another. When we use VoIP, our voice is translated into data packets which are then streamed over the Internet to the destination where they are translated back to the original voice. The VoIP used in the 171, 177, 178 services… is the same as the VoIP used in the Internet phone services like FoneVNN Greencard. The difference is the 17X services use reserved bandwidth, and the Internet phone services use open internet. This is why the quality of PC-based calling is often of very poor.

How does VTT offer, branded “cost-effective international calling solution”, differ from the existing VoIP solutions available?

The biggest difference is that our advanced equipment, which is the only equipment of its kind legally available in Vietnam, allows the caller to place international calls at Internet phone rates, using a regular phone. Because of special technology built into the devices, the quality of the calls are much higher than PC-based calls and nearly the same as our traditional calls. We have solutions for both dial-up and broadband internet, ranging from one to four lines for small to medium size users, and up to 30 lines for corporate users and large hotels.

In some cases the price points for your products are fairly high. Do you think this product is affordable for average Vietnamese customers?

In order to answer this question, you need to understand the breakdown of the market, also called segmentation, and how we select our customers. We are targeting individuals, organizations and companies that need to lower their telecommunication costs while maintaining a high level of quality, or that are looking for new ways to increase their revenues.

Let’s look at an example. A company using normal means to call the US is charged about US$1 per minute. If their average monthly international phone bill is US$150 they are calling approximately 150 minutes per month. If they use our VTT’s solution, their monthly cost for 150 minutes will be about US$6 (US$.004 * 150), saving them US$144 per month. Therefore their savings in a single month are enough to cover the costs for equipment that can be used for dial-up (Yap Jack Pro II) or broadband (VoIP Phone) internet connections.

It seems that this new technology is excellent for international calls, but what about local calls? Is there some solution that can help reduce the cost of long distance domestic calls?

We are working with the MPT and VNPT now to bring in some additional technologies that are currently unavailable in Vietnam. In the future, we’ll see some amazing innovations come along that will really change the way people place calls, not only international but also domestic.

Could you please give some information about VTT’s current business activities, customer service policies and development strategy in the near future?

VTT’s headquarters are located in Hanoi and we have a Representative Office in Ho Chi Minh City. This month, we will open our first showroom & service centre in Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to VTT’s direct-sales force, we also develop our distribution-sales network with more than 500 dealers covering all Vietnam’s big cities and provinces.

Secondly, we grant free of charge installation service for all VTT equipment.
