AEON Grants VND400 Million Scholarships to Vietnamese Students
On December 14, AEON 1% collaborated with AEON Group Company Vietnam to grant 40 scholarships to outstanding students of University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education with total scholarship value of more than VND400 million.
This is the 8th ceremony that AEON grants scholarships to Vietnamese students to support on making their dreams come true. From 2006 to 2018, the program granted a total of 676 scholarships in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Along with business activities, AEON always strive to contribute to development and growth of local community through promoting initiatives of AEON 1%. AEON 1% was established in 1989 with a philosophy that AEON is a company that makes proper use of the benefits received from customers for the future and the community. Every year, each group company contributes 1% of pre-tax profits to develop diversified initiatives on the sound upbringing of next generation, the promotion of international friendship and goodwill, and sustainable development of the local community.
AEON Scholarship program started in 2006 that is the yearly regular activity of AEON 1% to promote a target on assistance for furthering their growth as global human resources. Up to now, AEON scholarships were granted for many universities in 07 countries such as Japan, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam in order to encourage students and serve a bridge between Japan and students’ home countries on active engagement.
On behalf of AEON, Mr. Nishitohge Yasuo said “We hope that we will create more opportunities to expand our contribution to Vietnamese community, especially in Education field through our long-term investment and business activities in retail industry in Vietnam, which is one of important targets that Vietnamese Government is focusing on. We are trying to make every effort, collaborate, support and grow up together with Vietnamese community to create for the future.”
In Vietnam, AEON have carried out many social activities since 2010, such as school construction support project on building 30 schools in Hue province for over 15,000 children; sending total 142 high school students to participate AEON Asia Youth Leaders in many countries and AEON scholarship program. Beside from that, AEON Vietnam also collaborated with AEON Environment Foundation on many other projects, such as Tree planting activities in many provinces (at Ba Vi – Hanoi and Lang Co – Hue) and outside of 4 malls with total of 88,807 trees.
AEON Vietnam has been officially presented in Vietnam since 2009, at first under format of Representative Office. On 7th October 2011, with the approval from People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, AEON Vietnam had set up its Vietnam Company Limited to invest for 4 business segments as a core business: General Merchandises Stores (GMS); Specialty Store Business; Shopping Mall Development Business; E-commerce Business.
