Vinacoal to Kick off Truck Plant in Central Vietnam This Month

Construction on the Vinacoal heavy truck production factory in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone in central Quang Ngai province will start on March 22, according to the Vietnamese authorities in the locality.

The factory is worth of VND4,500 billion (US$285.4 million) and is executed by the Vietnam Coal Corporation (Vinacoal) and a Russian partner, the chairman of the Quang Ngai People’s Committee said.

The 120-hectare factory will have a capacity of 5,000 autos per annum, including 4,500 Kamaz heavy trucks and 500 specialized vehicles.

This is the second auto production and assembly project in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone. The other is the Chu Lai-Truong Hai auto assembly factory capitalized at VND1,348 billion (US$85.56 million).

The chairman Quang Ngai said this would create the most favorable conditions for investors in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone - hoping to turn the province into an automobile manufacture hub in Vietnam.

Vinacoal together with Vinamotor, VEAM and Samco has been selected the backbone of the national automobile industry development until 2020.
