Vietnam Eyes US$350Mln from Exporting Software to Japan
Vietnam may earn US$350 million from exporting software to Japan in 2010, accounting for 10 per cent of Japan's total spending on software imports, according to the Vietnam Software Association (Vinasa).
Japanese firms are turning to South East Asia for their software outsourcing contracts, as Indian and Chinese contractors have now become their strong rivals.
"Japan is now the strategic export market of Vietnam's software industry. Vietnamese software firms have seen their export revenues grow by 100 per cent annually since they began exports to Japan," said Vinasa chairman Truong Gia Binh.
Software export revenue growth is expected to be between 50 per cent and 80 per cent from now to 2010. Vietnamese software makers are expected to earn up to US$100 million.
"Japan's software market is currently valued at US$100 billion a year, including US$3 billion worth of imported software. If Vietnamese software firms can obtain 10 per cent of Japan's software imports, it would be a success," Binh said.
Last year, Vinasa sent two delegations to Japan to promote cooperation. The association also received 20 Japanese information technology delegations in the year. Early this year, Vinasa sent a delegation to attend the Jetro Software Fair in Tokyo.
