During 15 years of operation (2004 - 2019), Central Hydropower Joint Stock Company (EVNCHP) has constructed and commercially operated A Luoi Hydropower Plant in A Luoi district, Thua Thien Hue province, and Cu Jut Solar Park in Cu Jut district, Dak Nong province, helping ensure national energy security and meet energy demand for socioeconomic development in the central region, the Central Highlands and the whole country.

The limelight of A Luoi Hydropower Plant
The 170-MW A Luoi Hydropower Plant features a 208-m long, 49.5-m high concrete gravity dam and a 13.3-km tunnel. The plant was built in 2007 and started commercial power generation in 2012. Currently, two turbines are running very stably.
With the firm management of the Board of Directors and the tireless efforts of all employees, EVNCHP has always fulfilled or even exceeded its business plan. Especially, from 2014 to 2017 marked a development milestone as EVNCHP entered the power business market - a difficult but very potential market. Grasping this opportunity as well as understanding the challenge, the leadership and the staff of the company have constantly endeavored to manage all stages of procurement, input supply, fuel, technical management, operation management and equipment repair to ensure stable, reliable and prompt performance and run at all modes of operation. EVNCHP also attaches special importance to intensive investment in the electricity market and the pricing strategy suitable the hydrological characteristics, production capacity and electricity market in each period; promotes IT application to management and administration; assigns its marketing staff to attend training courses and acquire experience from partner units to help them update their knowledge of electricity market and improve their professional skills and competitiveness.

Hence, from 2014 to 2017, EVNCHP’s revenue and profit always exceeded its plans. Specifically, its revenue from 2014 to 2017 respectively fulfilled 120%, 117%, 108% and 135% of the annual plans, and its profit from 2014 to 2017 reached 185%, 158%, 114% and 185% of the plans. Particularly, in 2018, due to objective reasons (severely prolonged drought that results in no water for electricity production), its revenue and profit reached only 78% and 56% of the plan. Since its operation, A Luoi Hydropower Plant has supplied more than 4.2 billion kWh of electricity to the power grid, earning over VND4,400 billion of revenue and paying over VND800 billion to the State budget. Its operations help supplement the power source for the national electricity system and contribute to socioeconomic development, security and defense in Thua Thien Hue province in particular, the Central Coast, the Central Highlands and the whole country in general.
Trailblazer in green energy source development
In the long-term development strategy, the sustainability of green energy sources is a transparent requirement. The prelude to this approach is the Cu Jut Solar Park with the installed capacity of 50 MWAC, an average annual electricity output of 94.71 million kWh (with a frequency of 65%) and a total investment of VND1,367 billion. This is the first solar power project in Dak Nong province, deployed since June 2017.
EVNCHP General Director Truong Cong Gioi said that EVNCHP surveyed many areas in the country and found that Cu Jut district in Dak Nong province had good solar radiation, with average annual sunlight of about 2,500 hours (only after Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces). The terrain is quite flat, very convenient for leveling the ground and transporting machines and equipment for construction. The power transmission system and infrastructure are relatively complete. Especially, the 110-kV Dak Mil - Cu Jut transmission line is connected to the project area, thus saving the cost and time of constructing the feed-in line that connects transformer stations of Cu Jut solar power park with the 110-kV Dak Mil - Cu Jut transmission line.
In addition, the project construction was very favorable thanks to the support and consensus of local authorities and people. Importantly, EVNCHP selected the Chinese experienced general contractor, SUMEC Complete Equipment & Engineering Co., Ltd, which has built a lot of solar power plants in China, Malaysia and other countries. The company has good financial resources for the project to keep up with its registered progress.
With all the aforementioned advantages, Cu Jut Solar Power Plant officially started commercial operations on April 20, 2019, 70 days earlier than planned. By the end of September 2019, the solar park had generated 36.6 million kWh of electricity, making VND77 billion of revenue and more than VND8 billion of after-tax profit. It supplies power to local people and helps stabilize the voltage and electrical grid of Dak Nong province in particular and the whole country in general, thus enabling economic restructuring, employment and socioeconomic development.
Exercising good social responsibility for sustainable development
During 15 years of operation, in addition to efforts for better business performance and stronger national energy security, EVNCHP has also paid special attention to environmental protection, care for employees and community responsibility. Mr. Truong Cong Gioi said, community responsibility is a consistent policy of the company. Carrying out social activities is building a good culture that enhances the humanity of EVNCHP leadership and staff, thus educating all people of good thinking, good life and good sharing with the community and the society. Hence, EVNCHP employees always actively contribute one or two days of their salary for meaningful charity and social security activities such as building houses for people with sacrifice and service to the nation, supporting flood and storm victims and building rural infrastructure.
EVNCHP has supported many social security projects in Thua Thien Hue province and border areas of Laos in recent years, for example constructing Ka Lo Bridge in Ka Lum district, Lao PDR; funding VND936 million to build schools in Se Sap village, Ka Lum district; supporting the construction of Bot Do Market in A Luoi district, Thua Thien Hue province and funding poor districts with a total value of more than VND5.7 billion. Truong Son Mountains in the A Luoi hydropower project area are changing their face every day, with new houses, schools, roads and clinics built in the center of resettlement areas, easing life and education for local people.
Along with meaningful philanthropic activities, the EVNCHP Trade Union always cares about the life of all employees. It visits and supports them and their families on the occasion of Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays or when they are in trouble. The union also coordinates with the company to organize vacations and field trips in Vietnam and other countries, present gifts and rewards to employees’ children on International Children’s Day and Mid-Autumn Festival. Unionist, cultural and sports activities are organized regularly and popular among a majority of employees.
By pioneering the governance, economic development and corporate social responsibility, in two consecutive years (2017 - 2018), EVNCHP was proud to be named among the top 100 sustainable businesses in Vietnam and voted by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor as one of 60 companies for employee in 2018. Besides, EVNCHP had the honor of being awarded the Third Class Labor Order by the President of Vietnam and many certificates of merit from EVN Group, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Prime Minister and the Da Nang City People’s Committee, emulation flags from Thua Thien Hue province and Dak Nong province for its continuous contributions.
