Vietnam’s Finance Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung and Japanese Deputy Minister of Finance Hiroshi Watanabe on April 6 agreed to speed up negotiations on agreements worth US$1 billion to support Vietnam in stabilizing its monetary markets.
The two senior financial officials met at the ninth conference of the ASEAN Finance Ministers, which opened in Vientiane, Laos, on April 6.
Hung also asked Japan to increase its support for Vietnam's bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) by finishing the negotiations process as soon as possible.
During his stay in Vientiane, Hung held a working session with Lao Finance Minister Chansy Phosikham where they discussed measures to boost financial cooperation between the two countries.
Japan is the largest Official Development Assistance provider to Vietnam with commitments totaling US$837 million for 2004.
